Kathy's journey started with a challenge – trying to find unique products for her paint studio and retail store in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which she owned with her mother for over 10 years. In 1997, she designed the first "primitive candle box," crafting each one by hand, taking care into every detail from the sanded edges to the type of ribbon tied on the wire handles. Each box was a work of passion.

As demand grew quickly for the expanding line of handmade products, Kathy enjoyed great success. It was then that she enlisted the help of the wonderful people at Goodwill Services to aid in fulfilling the increasing demand. This marked the beginning of one of the most valuable philanthropic partnerships, which still exists to this day.

Within 20 years, Primitives by Kathy has risen to be ranked as one of the top 25 fastest-growing women-owned businesses in the world. Like all great ideas, Kathy's started with a challenge, but her dedication, creativity, and the support of her partners have propelled the company to new heights.
